Jose Valentin specializes in public law, white-collar crime, compliance, and IP matters.
Before becoming a partner at D’Empaire in 2001, he worked at the Political Administrative Chamber of Venezuelan Supreme Court of Justice as clerk to Justice Humberto J. La Roche (1995-1999).
Jose Valentin received a J.D. from Universidad Catolica Andres Bello in 1990, a master’s degree in administrative law in 1994 and a master’s degree in criminal law from Universidad Catolica Andres Bello. He teaches administrative law at Universidad Catolica Andres Bello.
His noteworthy experiences include:
- Representing Radio Caracas Television (RCTV) in several judicial and administrative proceedings concerning the renewal of its broadcasting license.
- Representing VISA in several judicial controversies on IP and tort matters.
- Representing several multinational companies in several criminal proceedings on the acquisition of foreign currency under exchange control regulations.
- Representing foreign multinational energy in criminal proceedings on public procurement matters.
- Representing foreign multinational manufacturers in criminal proceeding on controlled substance matters.
- Representing foreign investors in mining joint-ventures.
- Representing oil services companies in tort claims against the Venezuelan government arising of confiscations and expropriations.
Jose is currently ranked by Chambers & Partners in Public Law and White Collar Crime, and as a “Leading Lawyer” by The Legal 500.
He is fluent in Spanish and English.
